Airport forwarding requires two appointments to work: handing the bag over before the carrier’s cutoff and collecting it before you need it for your flight. Build both into the plan before paying for or relying on delivery.
Confirm the airport service and dispatch day
Yamato’s airport guidance describes dispatch two calendar days before departure, or three for some areas, with counter-specific cutoffs. Do not interpret this as any time 48 hours before takeoff. Time-range delivery cannot be specified for luggage sent to the airport.
Confirm the route and service with the carrier. A hotel’s reception opening hours are not necessarily the shipping cutoff. Hotel-to-hotel timing also does not establish airport delivery timing.
Work backwards from when you need the bag
| Collection worksheet | Your confirmed value |
|---|---|
| Flight date, airline and terminal | ___ |
| Airline’s applicable check-in or bag-drop deadline | ___ |
| Time you need to reach the airline desk | ___ |
| Journey from collection counter to that desk | ___ |
| Collection target and counter opening hours | ___ |
| Receipt or other collection proof | ___ |
Use the airline’s actual instructions for your booking. Choose your own walking and uncertainty allowances after checking the route; this article does not prescribe a universal airport buffer.
The official counter list distinguishes pickup from shipping. For Narita Terminal 1, it lists pickup on 4F and shipping on 1F in the relevant wings. Check the exact participating counter, current hours and terminal for your journey. Do not plan collection using the address of a sending desk.
Put the handoff into your earlier itinerary
Record the dispatch counter, route-specific last dispatch day, time cutoff, hotel or counter handoff process, and the date and source of the confirmation. A quote and a confirmed handoff are separate records.
In a fictional example, a Sunday flight has a carrier-confirmed Friday 15:00 cutoff. Returning to the sending hotel at 16:00 on Friday misses it. A Thursday handoff is an option only after the carrier confirms the arrangements. These times are invented to show the decision, not a published service timetable.
If the airport counter opens after your required collection time, sending earlier does not fix that conflict. Change the collection plan or use a fallback you have separately checked.
Keep a fallback and essential items available
Keep the receipt accessible without opening the forwarded bag. Retain travel documents and necessary medication with you, and check the selected service’s item restrictions. If a critical confirmation remains missing, plan to carry the bag or use another confirmed arrangement.
No public webpage can establish availability or acceptance for your individual flight. Recheck the carrier and airline instructions before the handoff.
